“The White Winged Moth represents the activities of Dean Roberts, of the New Zealand improv/drone trio Thela (whose debut CD on Ecstatic Peace was released in 1995). Beautifully ringing guitar tones of organic-metallic origin (sounding akin to some of the sweetest extrapolation of electric string activity since Sonic Youth took Bad Moon Rising on tour), occasional whispered vocals, bits of piano and taped-haze add together for the effect of ultimate dreamsearch ambiance. Simply, one of the most gorgeously resonating releases of the current millennium.” -Forced Exposure 1996.

The ongoing project is somewhat mythical, with only a few live performances under this title in the USA, UK, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand, the project has a cult following with 3 LPs released with the production of Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame, and is praised and cited as an influence on artists such as Six Organs of Admittance, Godspeed You Black Emperor and many others in the experimental and music scene.
The project works with improvisational material generated via percussion,prepared guitars,cello and micro to macro electro acoustic audio worlds in collaboration with many different partners of the years. This remains an ongoing project aside from Roberts’ acclaimed solo works, “All Cracked Medias” 1999, “The Black Moths Play the Grand Cinema”, 2000, “Be Mine Tonight” 2002 and more recently “Not Fire” 2020, all released under his own name.
The White Winged Moth project melds preparation and improvisation,the thematic flow of this detailed sound design is shrouded in the magnetic electric glow and florescent tone color that make Roberts' recordings some of the most defined and singular explorations coming out of New Zealand or anywhere. Often drawing comparisons to This Heat, Dead C. and other luminaries of post- rock avant garde. Dean Roberts has presented concerts in the hundreds the world over under his own name, however the White Winged Moth project has never been presented in Europe so this will be a debut of this obscure project for the first time in Italy.

Pho Bho torna al Fanfulla e per l’occasione presenta il live di Hans Arsen, con l’accompagnamento strumentale di Reptilian Expo, fondatore di Pampsychia e produttore dell'ep "Liquid" insieme ad Hans. Dopo l'esordio a C2C il duo è pronto a riproporre quell'atmosfera watery-bubble scandita dal singolare timbro di Hans: il mondo dei sunytty viene decostruito su bpm elevati e pronunciate basse frequenze. Ad accompagnare il live ci saranno Matteo Coffetti e Giulio Perotti aka Tundra di Pho Bho Records. Grafiche di Federico Spini.
